Frozen 2, also known as Frozen II, is a computer-animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the 58th animated film produced by the studio, and the sequel to the 2013 film Frozen. Directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, produced by Peter Del Vecho, and written by Lee, Buck, Marc Smith, Kristen Anderson-Lopez, and Robert Lopez, the film stars the voices of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad, and Jonathan Groff. The story picks up three years after the first film and follows sisters Anna and Elsa, Kristoff, his reindeer Sven, and the snowman Olaf as they travel to an enchanted forest to uncover the origin of Elsa's magical powers. Despite initial concerns that the sequel may not live up to the original, Frozen II was green-lit in March 2015 and featured enhanced animation technology.
The film was widely released in 46 languages and was accompanied by a documentary series, Into the Unknown: Making Frozen II. Despite mixed reviews on its narrative and music, Frozen II was a box office success, earning over $1.450 billion worldwide and becoming the third highest-grossing film of 2019 and the tenth highest-grossing film of all time. It also received a nomination for Best Original Song at the 92nd Academy Awards.
